They came to the United States in 1869 by ship from Hamburg and settled in Wisconsin before moving on to Michigan. They lived in Platte Township, Benzie Co, MI. Their only son was my Great Grandfather, George Alfred Hopkins. This home was in Interlochen, Michigan. It is still standing today. It was built in the 1890s and was used as a boarding house as well as the family's residence. Standing in the back are George Alfred Hopkins (1882-1949), Edith Harriet Hopkins Rehbine (1880-1909) and I believe Ella Viola Hopkins Cole (1884-1908) (Etta and Ella are one year apart I may have them switched). In the front row is I believe Etta Ruth Hopkins Lewis (1885-1911), Sedgewick Erastus Hopkins (1854-1932), Abbie Grace Hopkins Nelson (1888-1976), Mary Balitz Hopkins (1859-1909) holding Erma Naomi Hopkins Riley (1894-?) and Nina Lydia Hopkins Russell (1889-?) Given that Erma was born in June of 1894 I would say this picture was taken about 1896.
